IN 1995, WE TOLD OUR CUSTOMER, IF THEY DIDN’T LIKE OUR NEW RTGs, WE’D TAKE THEM BACK.

They called…
...to order more RTGs. Over 140 to date. Times have changed. Our legal department probably wouldn’t let us give such a guarantee anymore. What hasn’t changed is that our original RTG concept is still the industry standard for productivity and reliability.

That customer was, and is, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA). Here you see the first of our RTGs delivered to the GPA’s container terminal in Savannah. The year was 1995. These machines were equipped with our Active Load Control System, which eliminated container sway. The RTG operators loved those machines.

Here you see Jorma Merimaa, R&D Chief Engineer, Konecranes Port Cranes, in 1995 in Savannah. Jorma was one of the original developers of our RTG. He’s looking at the machine, thinking “Hey it really works!”

Below you see the 1000th RTG made and delivered by Konecranes: crane number 181 in the middle. We decked out two of its legs in the Stars and Stripes in honor of the occasion. We have delivered over 140 RTGs to the Port of Savannah, the largest single container terminal in North America.
