When a major North American automotive manufacturer looked at automating their facility in North Carolina, they needed to find a solution that was able to consistently move their vehicles through the production process. Their problem was unique in that the load they needed to move was over 40,000 lbs. in weight and was almost 40 feet long, 10 feet high and 8 feet wide!

The supplier?s in-house design team developed a solution that included a unique laser-guided vehicle designed specifically for this customer’s application. In addition, the supplier applied the use of their unique ability to quad-steer the vehicle with laser guidance, which maximized the use of minimal floor space.
The result was a large, unique tailor-made laser- guided vehicle that was installed and moved the vehicle throughout the production process.
Expansion Functionality on Demand:
This was the first use of Automatic Guided Vehicles for this company and the inherent results of a completely automated assembly process have already been recognized. Within a year of successful implementation of this system this customer was so pleased that there are plans for system expansion. The implementation of this new system resulted in a solution that was custom for this specific customer and took into account cost, safety and flexibility.
