Swedish-based Konecranes Lifttrucks opened its 2nd production facility last year. The new production facility is located in Shanghai, China which becomes the Lifttrucks Production, Sales and Technical Support hub for the Asia-Pacific region. Singapore is enhanced as a regional sub-hub with the recent relocation to larger premises.

Konecranes as group has adopted an aggressive growth strategy with its China workforce now exceeding 700 people. Through sales and services centres located in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Dalian and Tianjin, Konecranes has been able to rapidly build its market presence throughout China.

The Shanghai plant assembles Empty Container Handlers and Reach Stackers. Key components are imported from Europe with emphasis on quality and knowledge transfer from Sweden. Konecranes believes the Asia market is receptive to latest technology and has adopted the strategy of maintaining the brand’s good reputation of superior performance.

Leading the way in the application of Canbus technology and Electronic Controls for Lifttrucks, Konecranes extended its revolutionary system to provide real time data about the controls, hydraulics, engines, transmissions and spreaders, which can be downloaded remotely and stored for analysis. Using “Eco Drive System” Port Operators can track drivers in terms of fuel consumption, productive hours, time driving versus lifting, container lifts to name a few.

Ryan Flynn Konecranes Ports Director for Asia summarised the benefits of this system:  "It is a strategic tool that improves driver performance and enhances the security of both the driver and the machine. If used correctly and integrated into Key Performance Targets this system increases productivity, reduces operational costs and improves customer service".

Konecranes is a world-leading group of Lifting Businesses™, serving a broad range of customers, including manufacturing and process industries, shipyards, ports and terminals. Konecranes provides productivity-enhancing lifting solutions as well as services for lifting equipment and machine tools of all makes. In 2006, Group sales totaled EUR 1483 million.
