Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and General Electric (GE) signed a contract valued at US$2.6 billion to build power plant for Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity & Water on September 13.

The plant will be completed by June 2012 with 2,000MW capacity will be located in Sabiya, 100km north of Kuwait City.

The project is part of Kuwait’s long term plan to expand the production capacity of electric power. HHI will carry out the engineering, procurement and construction of combined cycle gas turbine including heat recovery steam generator at Sabiya Power Plant.

HHI formed a consortium with GE to bid for the project and after fierce competition from European and local companies, the consortium was successful.
