Konecranes has delivered its ship-to-shore (STS) crane to container terminal operator Steveco Oy's new Vuosaari container terminal in
Steveco ordered the crane in July 2007. The crane was manufactured at Konecranes' facilities in Hanko. After the crane was completed, it was tested and tugged to Vuosaari on a barge.
The crane has a lifting capacity of 50 metric tons and an outreach of 38 meters. The crane design makes the crane extremely versatile. It allows for different terminal operating models depending on the specific needs of different shipping lines. The crane can e.g. quickly unload a ship and store the containers between the crane legs or hold containers that are to be shipped, on the quay at night-time.
The Konecranes BoxHunter STS crane is equipped with the unique Active Load Control System, which prevents loads from swaying, and Konecranes Crane Management System (CMS), which monitors the crane's productivity and condition. Predictive maintenance ensures safe and uninterrupted operation. The crane is also equipped with Konecranes' dedicated AC drives for crane usage, which result in low energy consumption. Another feature of the crane is the advanced operator guidance feature, which includes a container guidance and positioning system that communicates with straddle carriers to optimize container placement and movement. All the above features make the crane the most efficient STS crane in
