In less than a month since winning the major equipment supply contract for the first two units AP1000 TM in U.S., Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd., (President & CEO Geewon Park) has been awarded yet another supply contract for a second AP1000TM project in U.S.

Following their award on May 8th for the supply of major nuclear equipment to new nuclear power plants to be built in Georgia, Doosan announced that they have signed a contract worth approximately 200 billion Korean won with Westinghouse Electric Company for the supply of major nuclear equipment for U.S. plants to be built in South Carolina.

In the world nuclear industry, all major players have focused their efforts to develop the latest model of nuclear technology and to obtain regulatory licenses. AP1000TM is an advanced Pressurized Water Reactor developed by Westinghouse and has been certified by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Doosan has been strengthening its long-term relationship with Westinghouse. After winning the equipment supply contract for the world's first AP1000TM contract in China, Sanmen & Haiyang nuclear power plants, followed by the recently announced new AP1000TM in U.S., Doosan has secured a more advantageous position for the future U.S. market.

"Doosan has been selected to supply major equipment to all 4 units of U.S. AP1000 TMs," said Mr. Tae Woo Kim, Executive VP & Head of Nuclear Business Group of Doosan. Mr. Kim further stated, "We will speed up our advancement to overseas new nuclear market and consolidate our position as major nuclear equipment provider."

Since supplying its Replacement Steam Generator for Sequoyah unit 1 of TVA in 1999, Doosan has successfully demonstrated its technological distinction in the U.S. nuclear market. As a result Doosan was chosen to supply replacement equipment for TVA's Watts Bar, Entergy's ANO -2, and Arizona Public Service Co.'s Palo Verde projects.

For more than the last decade, the electric power utilities with approval of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission have increased the power output and extended the life span of many of the installed nuclear power plants in order to cover the electricity shortage throughout U.S. However, with a soaring demand for electricity, sky-high oil prices and the need to reduce carbon emissions, it has become necessary to begin construction of new nuclear power plants.

Steam Generators (SG) are used in nuclear power plants to generate high pressure steam utilizing the heat from the nuclear fuel which is installed in the Reactor Vessel (RV). These two equipments form the core in nuclear power plants. Currently Doosan has full and necessary technologies to manufacture and to meet the demand for high-quality SG's and RV's.
