Korea's Ministry of Construction and Transportation and Overseas Construction Association of Korea announced on July 3 that in the period to June of this year Korean companies posted USD 16.1 billion in overseas construction orders, which represents an 89% increase from the same period of last year.

Doosan accounted for the largest share at USD 2.85 billion, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Engineering and Samsung Corporation followed with over USD 1 billion each.

The plant field generated USD 11.8 billion (a 119% increase) or 74% of total orders, due to an increase in orders from major petroleum-producing countries in the Middle East.

By region, orders from the Middle East increased to USD 10.5 billion, which is a 134% increase year on year, while orders from Asia increased to USD 3.34 billion - a 47% increase year on year. Furthermore, orders were robust from Europe and Central and South America, and contracts for projects worth USD 890 million (Europe) and USD 280 million (Central and South America) were signed with these regions.

By country, orders from the UAE reached USD 4.37 billion, accounting for the largest share, followed by Kuwait (USD 1.67 billion), Saudi Arabia (USD 1.503 billion), Oman (USD 1.26 billion), Libya (USD 850 million), and Singapore (USD 600 million).
