Moving giant pumpkins weighing more than 1,000 pounds in a crowd of people is no small feat. Crown Equipment, one of the world’s leading forklift manufacturers, recently supplied its Crown C-5 Series pneumatic tire forklift to safely transport the winning 1,370-pound pumpkin during the annual Pumpkinfest in New Bremen, Ohio, where the company is headquartered.

Participants in the giant pumpkin competition rely on Crown Equipment to transport their giant pumpkins from trailers and tractors to a massive scale. The Crown C-5 Series, along with other Crown forklifts, moved 16 pumpkins weighing more than 1,000 pounds.

The two-day event also featured a regatta, bake-off and pumpkin-smashing monster truck show. Coverage of this year’s event aired in mid-October on The Weather Channel’s show “Pumpkin Palooza.”

The Crown C-5 Series is designed to eliminate the frequent maintenance, excessive downtime and shortened lifespan that limit operator productivity in heavy-duty outdoor forklift applications. The Crown C-5 Series pneumatic model is equipped with an industrial John Deere Power Systems (John Deere) engine, a dual open-core radiator that offers independent engine and transmission cooling, a long-lasting power brake, and solid pneumatic tires as standard features. The forklift, which is available in capacities ranging from 4,000 to 6,500 pounds, can deliver a lifespan up to two times longer than comparable IC forklifts and can lower scheduled maintenance checks to over 80 percent.
