Clark forklifts have long been part of the zoo’s logistics operations

A versatile Clark electric forklift from the company’s Crossover series has been put through its paces at Duisburg Zoo — proving its value in everything from feeding animals to handling sensitive live cargo.

Clark forklifts have long been part of the zoo’s logistics operations, moving feed, equipment and materials across the site. In recent years, they have also taken on more unusual duties — including helping safely transport three manatees, or sea cows, to their new home in the zoo’s Rio Negro tropical hall.

The latest test saw the Renegade S30XE model demonstrate its versatility across a range of tasks. Designed as part of Clark’s innovative Crossover series, the electric forklift performed reliably both in the zoo’s farmyard and while delivering feed to animal enclosures.

According to the zoo’s operations team, the truck handled uneven terrain and narrow access routes with ease, offering the durability of an industrial vehicle with the agility needed for confined environments. The Crossover’s electric drive system also ensured quiet, low-emission operation — essential when working near animals.

Clark representatives said the Renegade S30XE’s performance at Duisburg Zoo highlighted its adaptability beyond standard warehouse work, describing it as “a machine that can bridge the gap between industrial and outdoor operations with ease.”

Built for a wide range of applications, the Crossover forklift combines the strength of a counterbalance truck with the efficiency and comfort of an electric vehicle — making it ideal for facilities like zoos, farms, and horticultural sites where reliability and flexibility are key.
