For the second consecutive year, Yorkshire-based company A-Safe (UK) Ltd has featured in the Sunday Times Heathrow SME Export Track 100 league table, which lists Britain’s fastest-growing SMEs based on international sales.

A-SAFE is one of only five companies from Yorkshire to make the list after posting international sales of £12.5m for year ending December 2015. Export sales growth for the polymer safety barrier inventor and manufacturer is 38% over the last two years.

The league table reflects the importance of Europe to Britain’s SME exporters, with 80 of the listed companies selling to the region. In 2015-16, A-SAFE opened three new subsidiaries on the continent, in Spain, Belgium and The Netherlands, adding to other overseas offices in Germany, France, Italy, Scandinavia, as well as the USA.

A-Safe (UK) Ltd Director James Smith said: “We are pleased to make the list for the second year running. It shows our export growth is substantial and sustained, supported by the forming of new European subsidiaries. Demand for our products remains extremely strong and, with our new iFlex barrier range alongside some exciting product launches, we’re looking forward to continued growth in 2016.”

A-SAFE supply barrier safety solutions to a variety of industrial environments, with clients including Heathrow Airport, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Amazon and Jaguar Land Rover. Recently in Europe the company has worked on large-scale projects with Mars Group in France, Smurfit Kappa in Germany and H&M in The Netherlands.

John Holland-Kaye, chief executive of Heathrow Airport, headline sponsor of the league table, commented: “For many small businesses exporting starts with a single box on a plane, not a container on a ship. As Britain’s biggest port by value Heathrow recognises the significant economic contribution that SMEs make to the UK through international trade. That’s why access to the new and growing markets of the world is so important.”

A-SAFE’s maintenance-light barriers protect people, equipment and structures in the workplace and offer clear and robust health and safety-adherent segregation between workers and vehicles.
