Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world’s largestmaterial handling companies, today announced Jim Gaskell, director of global technology businessdevelopment, will speak at the Association for Iron and Steel Technology’s Safety and HealthFundamentals Conference taking place in Indianapolis, September 1-3, 2015.
Gaskell’s presentation will focus on the role technology plays in improved fleet and operatormanagement and how it can be used to ensure operator compliance and safety. He will also discussthe Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) compliance process and provide bestpractices in integrating technology-based warehouse management systems.
“Today’s operator and fleet management systems enable managers to immediately respond toimpacts when they occur, monitor operator performance, control truck performance based on operatorskill level and be more informed about potential maintenance issues,” said Gaskell. “When properlyimplemented and utilized, this type of technology can help increase warehouse efficiency and improveoverall safety.”
In June, Crown launched the “I am a champion of safety” initiative in conjunction with the IndustrialTruck Association’s National Forklift Safety Day. The program recognizes forklift safety championsthroughout the supply chain and the important role each person plays in making safety a priority. Aspart of the program, Crown is distributing safety-based materials throughout its retail locations andcorporate offices noting the role of design, technology, training, and individual responsibility in takingownership of safe operations.
Sponsored by AIST’s Safety & Health Technology Committee, the conference focuses on newsolutions to reinforce and improve safety and health initiatives at metal-producing facilities, as well asthose of associated suppliers, vendors and contractors. Topics being addressed at the conferenceinclude maintenance work requests, fall protection, workplace violence and presentations fromindustry leaders.
