GKN in China

In 1988, GKN was the first western company to invest in the automotive component industryin China. Through more than 25 years investment and development of our capabilities, GKNnow operates from 15 locations in China, employing more than 6,000 people. GKN LandSystems currently operates from four locations in Liuzhou, Lianyungang, Taicang andShanghai, providing power management solutions services as well as aftermarketdistribution and through life support for the China and Asia Pacific areas.

Innovation for construction, mining and utilityAs vehicle manufacturers in the heavy construction market desire new technologies that canbring greater fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions, electrification is fast becoming a keyglobal trend. GKN Land Systems will be showcasing its new product development in theelectric and hybrid vehicles arena at Bauma 2014.

A range of electric motors has been developed by GKN Land Systems ideally suited to in-hub off-highway electric applications which hold the promise of greater efficiency andimproved functionality. Focusing on efficiency and performance, GKN’s electric drivetechnology delivers high torque and high power density through the development of axialflux, AF-130 phase, permanent magnet, synchronous motors.

The motors are currently available in four sizes delivering power from 68kW to 188kWcontinuous (with peak power up to 400kW) and torques from 145Nm to 520Nm (with a peaktorque of 1200Nm). In addition to power-related advantages, such as the improved processefficiency of machines and implements, electric drive systems provide significantenvironmental benefits. Outstanding use can be made of alternative and more sustainableenergy sources and the CO2 emissions of mobile machines are significantly reduced.
