A range of historic marine engines were on display during the Southampton Maritime Festival 2014, showcasing the heritage of the brand and highlighting why Perkins engines have been the heart of so many significant machines since 1932.
The historic engines were exhibited by the Perkins Heritage Group, which is made up of current and former employees, all of who work hard to preserve the company’s history, in addition to rebuilding and reconditioning many of Perkins most notable engines to their former glory.
Visitors to the exhibition in Southampton were treated to a display of engines from the different decades, including the current M300C launched in 2010.
The oldest engine restored by the Perkins Heritage Group was build number 28, a Perkins Wolf engine, originally built back in 1933 and gifted to the group a number of years ago. After three years of perseverance and hard work, build number 28, is a running engine once more. In recognition of their work to restore the Wolf and of engineering excellence in the past, present and future, the Perkins Heritage Group received an Engineering Heritage Award from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
