Perkins’ new mechanical 6 cylinder offering took centre stage at this year’s Bices exhibition

An important addition to Perkins’ engine offering, the 7.1 litre 1106C affords a number of advantages for OEMs in all sectors, not least of which is the ability to do the work of much bigger displacement engines.

OEM customers are increasingly looking to build machines that are more productive, more powerful, and more efficient. If they can achieve that from an engine of smaller displacement that does the work of a bigger engine, and does it more economically over the life of the machine, then it represents a competitive advantage for them.

A natural choice for a wide variety of applications across the construction and materials handling sectors, the 1106C will go into production at Perkins’ Wuxi facility in 2012.

In the construction industry, there are many applications that can benefit from the introduction of the 1106C. OEMs typically use a 10 litre engine to power a 5 tonne wheeled loader, yet the 1106C will do the job from a more compact and more economical perspective. Its increased power density will do the work of a much larger displacement engine, while its compactness means better fuel consumption, making it more efficient and far more competitive on a whole life cost basis.

And in the material handling market the compactness, power density and low speed torque of the 1106C make it suitable for the typical ten tonne forklift. It is these kinds of advantages that will make this new engine a very popular choice around the world.

While the 1106C is a solution for today’s machines, it is also a solution for tomorrow’s equipment. Its common platform means OEMs will be able to easily adapt to any future domestic emissions legislation. It will offer ease of changeover from one emissions Tier to another meaning no costly redesign, re-engineering, or re-tooling of machine dependent on its ultimate destination and engine choice, enabling customers to fully exploit their machine ranges both domestically and overseas.

The addition of the 1106, along with the existing 1104 and 400 models built in Wuxi, provides OEMs with a range of tried and trusted engines that can meet their requirements on every level. Whatever their criteria, be it performance, package size or emissions compliance, there will be an engine format to suit
