The republic of China is a fast growing economy. An enormous amount of bills and coins is being moved in its central bank. From now on, they will be moved by Finnish automated guided vehicles (AGV), for Rocla has signed a significant deal with China’s central bank.

China’s central bank, People’s Bank of China, has decided to acquire Rocla’s AGVs to their warehouses. The central bank is currently building a modern warehouse in Shanghai. The warehouse will be open for business during next year, after which every third of Chinese coins will be carried by Finnish automated guided vehicles.

- In the first phase we will deliver a system of eight vehicles, which will transport bills and coins from the sorting process into the vault. Within the vault, is an automatic shelving system, which works perfectly together with the AGVs. Operating the AGV system and the vault, is an integrated warehouse management system (WMS), explains Rocla’s project manager Teppo Rinta-Filppula.

The central bank is quite large. The vault itself is 12 meters high and works in two stores.

An option for additional AGVs is also taken into account in the deal.

The central bank was convinced by the Finnish know-how. Rocla has delivered dozens of automated guided vehicles to China during the 21st century. China has proven to be a remarkable market for AGVs.

- The Chinese appreciate experience, reliability and good reputation. The significance of good reputation is especially important there, as Rinta-Filppula commented.
