GREENVILLE, N.C. (July 28, 2010) – Barloworld Handling is one of the largest Hyster lift truck dealers with an authorized U.S. sales territory covering eight Southeastern states. The company services its customers through 30 locations and approximately 800 employees, of which 50 percent are technicians.
Befitting its stature as a world-class organization, Barloworld provides comprehensive technical training at its full-service training center in Charlotte to both its employees and customers. The company believes strongly in technical training and employs four, full-time technical trainers. It also encourages all 30 of its branches to participate in the company’s training classes, which include operator training (site, application and unit specific), technical training (electric and ICE) and supervisor and train-the-trainer courses.
Barloworld offers technical training courses for the Hyster Fortis and XN Series, as well as basic hydraulics and electric troubleshooting, fuel systems and operator training.
“Barloworld adheres to a corporate culture of Value Based Management (VBM),” says Alwyn Smith, president of Barloworld Handling. “It’s a business model specifically designed to ensure that all processes and activities create value for the company’s employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders.”
Naturally, Barloworld’s philosophy extends to the company’s training efforts.
“We’ve taken the principles of VBM and applied them to our training practices,” said Charlie Jobes, Barloworld Handling’s training manager. “We survey our employees and customers to not only determine what they want and expect from training, but also to determine how training can add value to their personal and company performance.”
The end result is more loyal and dedicated employees and customers for Barloworld and increased brand loyalty for Hyster.
“Hyster is proud of the technical training that Barloworld provides to customers and employees,” said Brett Schemerhorn, vice president of sales, Hyster Company. “By increasing awareness surrounding the importance of lift truck education, both Barloworld and Hyster benefit from more knowledgeable customers and are able to provide superior service and support. In turn, employees benefit from the knowledge that their company promotes self-improvement in a rewarding, challenging, and value-based atmosphere, and the end user benefits from all of the above.”
