Hyundai Heavy Industries joined relief effort for the devastated Qinghai province in western China which was hit by 7.1-magnitude quake by dispatching ten 6-26ton class excavators and engineers on April 25.
Hyundai Heavy is playing a crucial role in bringing stability to the earthquake-hit region by restoring 170km long roads and removing rubble in Yushu county.
The company is receiving positive responses from residents by working more than 10 hours even after most relief workers call it a day.
An official from Hyundai Heavy said, “More than 2,000 people lost their lives in the earthquake. We just cannot sit back and see this calamity here as a company doing business in China.”
This is not the first time Hyundai Heavy has given aid to earthquake-hit areas in China. Back in May 2008, Hyundai Heavy deployed 19 construction units to the Sichuan province hit by the deadly 8.0-magnitude quake and donated 7 million yuan for the restoration of local schools.
