Along with its latest forklifts, Jungheinrich is presenting a series of further innovations involving industrial trucks at bauma 2010. This includes a new, patented system for safe lateral battery changing for series 2 and 3 electric counterbalanced stackers.

Lateral battery changing is now set to become even easier and safer for operators of Jungheinrich series 2 and 3 electric counterbalanced trucks. Jungheinrich is launching the new “SnapFit” battery changing system in 2010. This system involves a battery block changing adapter which is easy to mount on a low-platform truck and which facilitates the horizontal reception of the battery. “All the operator needs to do is move the low-platform truck directly below the battery, after which the SnapFit system automatically locks the battery into place,” explains Stefan Pfetsch, Head of Product Management for Electric Counterbalanced Trucks at Jungheinrich.

Since the battery is guided into position on the truck by rollers, it cannot get wedged in during battery changing. “The new system moreover ensures the battery is safely fixed on the low-platform truck during transport from the charging station,” adds Pfetsch. Apart from the minimum amount of force required when deploying a low-platform truck, the new Jungheinrich battery changing system also ensures economies of operation. As Stefan Pfetsch puts it: “The adapter can be employed in an extremely flexible manner. In practice all you need is a flick of the wrist to outfit a low-platform truck with the new SnapFit battery changing system.”

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is a service provider with manufacturing operations as well as an intralogistics solution provider, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and consulting. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
