Gunsan Shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries held a naming ceremony for its first two ships on February 25.
The vessels are two of eight 180,000dwt bulk carriers ordered from E.R. Schiffahrt in March 2008. Both ships are equipped with 18,600KW engines measure 291m in length, 45m in width and 24m in depth with a service speed of 15.3 knots (28km/h) and will be delivered by early March, 2010.
The ship was named E. R. Borneo by Ms. Yoko Yasui and the other ship was named E.R. Brandenburg by Ms. Sujin Stubkjaer, wife of Mr. Knud E. Stubkjaer, president of E. R. Schiffahrt.
Mr. Knud E. Stubkjaer and Mr. Min Keh-sik, vice chairman & CEO of Hyundai Heavy and 70 other guests attended this ceremony to congratulate the successful shipbuilding in Gunsan Shipyard.
The Gunsan shipyard, which had a ground breaking ceremony in May 2008, will be completed at the end of March 2010. The shipyard has a 1,650ton Goliath Crane and the world’s largest dry dock at 1.3 million dwt covering 1.8 million square metres. It is building 29 vessels including VLCCs and bulk carriers.
