In July 2009, Konecranes received an order for two environmentally friendly reach stackers from Maersk CFS, Chennai, India, a division of the A.P Möller/Maersk Group. The reach stackers will feature Konecranes’ Eco-Drive system, which calculates the fuel efficiency of the machines, thus optimizing fuel consumption and minimizing fuel costs. The machines will be delivered to the new container freight station in Chennai in the beginning of Autumn 2009. The value of the order is not disclosed.

A.P. Möller - Maersk is setting up its fourth Container Freight Station in India, after Nhava Sheva and Dadri, and plans to commence the Chennai operations by end of this year.

“One of the reasons for picking Konecranes was its local presence through Konecranes India Pvt. Ltd and the commitment shown by the team. Seamless support will be relied upon to ensure that our facility provides efficient and state-of-the-art off-dock services to all our customers,” says Joseph Sandiav, General Manager, Maersk CFS

“The efforts we have put into building our presence in India have paid off,” says Patrik Lundbäck, General Sales & Marketing Director, Lifttrucks at Konecranes. “These reach stackers are a good addition to the growing number of Konecranes equipment in India”.

The reach stackers have the capability of lifting laden containers of up to 45 tons five high in the first row and 31 tons in the second row.
