Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) signed a contract valued at more than US$ 1.7 billion for building an Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) in Bahrain.
HHI as a sole EPC Contractor won the order to build IWPP in the Middle East from a sponsor consortium led by Suez Energy International in partnership with Gulf Investment Corporation. The off-taker for power and water is Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), Bahrain. The total project cost of the Project is above US$ 2 billion.
The project is a part of long-term expansion plans of the power and water production capacity in Bahrain. HHI will execute 1,245 MW of power and 48MIGD of water capacity, gas fired combined cycle power project on a turnkey basis including design, supply, construction, erection commissioning, testing and handing over, which will be completed by 2011.
Buoyed by inflow of oil money, it is expected that the number of large power & desalination projects will be steadfastly grown in the Middle East, which will accelerate the presence of Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in the industrial plant sectors in this region, as well as domestic market.
