Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (MHI) predicated that the sales of turbine in the company by 2011 will be nearly 2.5 times than that of 2007. This has been affirmed in the Sales Predication on General Equipment & Special Vehicle Business disclosed on the Operation Meeting on June 16th.

Turbines used on gasoline and diesel trucks are the main products of MHI General Equipment & Special Vehicle Business together with engines, forklifts and military tanks. In 2007, among the sales of this business (474.4 billion Yen), turbines occupied 15% (about 71.2 billion Yen) while engines 26% (about 123.3 billion Yen), forklifts and logistics equipments 43% (about 204.0 billion Yen). MHI said that by the year of 2011, the sales of these three businesses will keep balanced that each will be about 180.0 billion Yen.

MHI predicated that by 2011, the business scale of turbines will increase to be 2.5 times than that of 2007 based on the dramatically increased gasoline price. In the past, it’s essential to enlarge the engine emission to improve the output power in the areas centralizing North America. However, the focus has now been turned to enhance inflame efficiency.

MHI showed that the global output of passenger vehicles was nearly 70 million sets, and the configuration rate of turbine was 25%. By 2012, the output will reach 80 million sets and turbine configuration rate will increase about 35%.

In order to meet the increasing demands, MHI will enhance the productivity of turbines. The company has announced that they will invest about 40 billion Yen to add production equipments in Sagamihara City in Japan and Netherlands as well as to establish new plants in Thailand.

In terms of engines, MHI will be engaged in manufacturing products facing construction machinery and power generation apparatus. The countries all over the world are on the process of adjusting the relevant rules on greenhouse gas, and it is predicated that the orders for engines meeting the emission standard will increase. MHI said that the sales of turbine and engine business expected to increase and forklift and logistics equipment business falling due to the low demands in Japan will develop to stay in a balanced position by the year 2011.
