After expanding Beijing Base with investment of RMB 8 billion Yuan, Sany Heavy Industry focused on Yangtze River Delta, investing RMB 8.6 billion Yuan to establish Zhejiang Base so as to compete with Global No.1 Construction Machinery Manufacturer Caterpillar.

On May 6^th, 2008, Sany Group signed a cooperation contract with Wuxing Zone in Huzhou, Zhejiang and Sany Heavy Industry (Wuxing) Construction Manufacturing Base was formally settled in Yangpian District, Meijia in the New Zone in the east of Wuxing.

This base will be constructed in three stages requiring expropriation of 2000 Mu land construction and putting into production, the base will possess production capacity and sales of RMB 12 billion Yuan, realizing annual interests and taxes of RMB 2.4 billion Yuan and producing SCC-series tracked crane and mine-used dampers matched with employee trainings, development and tests.  

In order to find a suitable investment base in Yangtze River Delta, the Chairman of the Board of Sany Group Liang Wengen led the team to conduct a two-year inspection to Shanghai, Kunshan, Wenzhou and Huzhou.

The President of Sany Group Xiang Wenbo explained: “Among so many cities around Yangtze River Delta, we finally chose Huzhou, not only due to its convenient transport conditions and advanced investment environment, but also the development space and prospective in Huzhou.

Presently, the New Zone in the east of Wuxing has been listed by Zhejiang Provincial Government into the important clusters of advanced manufacture among Hangzhou Bay Industries, where have gathered more than 300 enterprises at home and abroad. “Sany Heavy Industry (Wuxing) Construction Manufacturing Base will become an important construction machinery center in Huzhou and Zhejiang Province.” Secretary of Huzhou Municipal Party Committee and Standing Director of Municipal People’s Congress Sun Wenyou said.

The experts of the industry considered this investment of Sany entering Yangtze River Delta must be a strategic layout in a long term so as to compete with the expansion of foreign-funded brands, among which the most competitive counterpart is Caterpillar as the Global No.1 Construction Machinery Manufacturer.

Caterpillar has established complete production base in Yangtze River Delta. Main bases of Caterpillar are chosen in Xuzhou, Suzhou and Wuxi and there are unit machine production as well as matching parts project in terms of production line.

In May, 2007, Caterpillar Wuxi Matching Base started to operate. According to the original plan, Caterpillar would only establish one production plant of hydraulic parts, namely Caterpillar Hydraulics (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. However, due to the fast development of market in these years, the parent company of Caterpillar in America evaluated this scheme again and determined to upraise the strategic position of Wuxi through establishing this base to be the matching center of Caterpillar in the whole Asia-Pacific Area.

Early in October 2006, Caterpillar started to establish solely-funded plant in Suzhou to produce high-end products.

As domestic “First Brand” of concrete machinery, Sany is not that strong in construction of production base in Yangtze River Delta. Relevant superintendents kept silent to explain what will Sany do next after “competing with Caterpillar in short distance”.
