On January 17, the Doosan Group held the 2008 Doosan Management Awards ceremony at the Doosan Leadership Institute (DLI), with CEOs and Honorary Chairman Yong-gon Park in attendance.

The annual ceremony, which was held for the first time in 2007, was designed to encourage the affiliates that post the highest and most excellent management results, including EBIT growth, in the past year. This year the Grand Prize was awarded to DHI’s Power Plant BG, while the Management Innovation Prize was awarded to Doosan Infracore’s Construction Equipment BG. The winners of Special Prizes include Doosan Infracore’s Engines & Material BG and SRS Korea.

DHI’s Power Plant BG set a sound example for others to follow by reinforcing its competitiveness in overseas markets, winning orders worth 4.8 trillion and thereby achieving year-on-year growth of 220% in 2007. The large orders (those exceeding a value of 1 trillion won) won in 2007 include the Mundra Thermal Power Plant in India and the Composite Thermal Power Plant in Dubai.

Doosan Infracore’s Construction Equipment BG, which won the Management Innovation Prize, helped the Company to lay the groundwork for growth as a global business through the takeover of Bobcat, Attachments and Utility, and maintained the No.1 market share (i.e. 19.8%) in China. Doosan Infracore’s Engines & Material BG, a winner of a Special Prize, succeeded in developing the next-Plant Euro 4 Engine, which features dramatically improved fuel efficiency. SRS Korea, another winner of a Special Prize, posted its first net profit following its spin-off in 2005.

At the ceremony, Honorary Chairman Yong-gon Park said, "2008 is a significant year in which we took the first step towards realizing the goal of becoming a world-class business. Let’s do our best to enhance Doosan’s brand value in world markets by attaining our five established objectives: namely the continued promotion of our globalization efforts, the structural improvement of profitability and the company’s business model, achieving excellence in all operations and processes, securing high-end technologies and product quality, and training talented employees who will ensure the implementation of our strategies."

Each of the four prize-winning CEOs was presented with a gold gourd bowl. The late founder of the Group, Seung-jik Park, named it Doosan, saying, "Let’s form a high mountain ("san" in Korean) by accumulating one gourd bowl ("doo" in Korean) of wealth after another."
