- Highly efficient, environmentally-friendly engines which will help vehicle owners save up to 10 million won a year in fuel expenses.

- Products designed to meet Euro-4 emission standards will help the company make more positive forays into more industrialized countries.

On December 26, Doosan Infracore stated that it was introducing three low-pollution diesel engines for trucks and buses that meet Euro-4 emission standards taking effect in 2008 and will help vehicle owners save up to 10 million won a year in fuel expenses (compared to a bus equipped with a Euro-3 engine that has the average running distance of 100,000 km a year).

At the ceremony for delivering the first Euro-4 diesel engine held at its engine factory in Incheon, the Company introduced the three engines (i.e. 6 liter, 8 liter and 11 liter-class ones) and relevant technology that has succeeded in an epoch-making improvement of fuel efficiency.

The environmentally-friendly Euro-4 diesel engines introduced this time feature optimization of the fuel combustion and injection system, drastic enhancement in performance, reduction of emissions, excellent fuel efficiency and durability.

Compared to Euro-3 engines, the newly introduced models can help vehicle owners save up to 20 percent in fuel expenses through enhancement of output by more than 10 percent and the lowest fuel consumption level among vehicles in the same category. An employee at a tourism company in Busan using a vehicle equipped with the newly developed engine on a trial basis said, “It turns out to be an engine with a high economic efficiency. A test run of it shows that we can save more than 20 percent in fuel expenses, compared to the existing Euro-3 engine.”

Concerning the ever-more stringent emission standards the world over, the engines are equipped with a device that reduces 90 percent of particulate materials and 30 percent of nitrogen oxides from their emissions and can meet Euro-5 emission standards with a slight change in the design of major parts. The Company adopted the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) method, which is a next-generation emission reduction technology adopted by the majority of the world’s engine manufacturers. The SCR is the most effective method of reducing fundamental emission by transforming emission into innoxious nitrogen and water using a reducer named Urea. The newest technology was first adopted for commercial vehicles in 2005. It is also used for reduction of emissions at power plants and factories.

Vice President Lee Hwang-ryul (Head of Doosan Infracore Engine BG) said, “Our success in development of Euro-4 Engine is a technological breakthrough proving that our engine production technology has reached top level. We plan to reinforce production of small-sized diesel engines, targeting 100,000 units i.e. twice the current level, by 2011. We also plan to ship out trucks and buses of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle and Daewoo Bus Corporation that have Euro-4 engines installed from next January. We will advance into more industrialized countries, such as Japan, Taiwan, Australia and Singapore, on the back of their proven quality and economic efficiency.

Doosan Infracore became the first Korea diesel engine manufacturer in 1958. Since then, it has led other domestic businesses, including introduction of STORM Engine, the first engine developed with the nation’s own technology in 1985. In the ensuing period, it has developed a series of engines, i.e. Euro-1 through Euro-4, successfully.
