Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson New Jersey USA, one hour and a half driving from New York, has presented recently its newest and amazing roller coaster, the Kingda Ka. With this coaster the Swiss coaster manufacturer Intamin has shown its competence by breaking the speed world record.
In 3,5 seconds you are catapulted by hydraulic motors from stand still to 200 km/h to an extreme height of 139 meters, as high as a 45-storey building or the pyramid of Cheops in Egypt. On the top the train with 18 passengers remains for 1 second, where you can see the skyline of Manhattan when weather is good and at least when one dare to open the eyes. Then the train is falling straight down to go after the steep fall over a 'camel bump' of 43 meters high. In 28 seconds you have finished the track of 960 meters. Topspeed is 205 km/h.
It goes without saying that under these circumstances not just every wheel can be mounted under the train. In consultation with the Project Managers from the coasterbuilder the optimal material was investigated. For the Kingda Ka the choice was made to use Printhane FE (95?shore A). This Vulkoprin product in the meantime has proven plentifully its qualities on many coasters of different constructors. Together with Printhane X (96?shore A) it is on top of the market of roller coaster wheels.
