Doosan Engine establishes a 9million BHP production system for 2-stroke diesel engines
- Completing Assembly Shop 3, vigorously jockeying for world’s no. 1 engine production

Doosan Engine (President: Kyu Sang Cho), which specializes in manufacturing diesel engines for large ships, has completed its Assembly shop 3 with a 3million BHP production capacity, bringing its total annual capacity to 9million BHP. In this regard, on June 12, Doosan held a ceremony at its Changwon headquarters.

In a bid to respond positively to the increasing demand for ship engines due to the robust shipbuilding market, Doosan built and dedicated its Assembly shop3. Attending the ceremony were 500 personnel from domestic and overseas shipbuilders, ship owners, and licensor, including Dr. Martin Wernli, the president of the licensor Wartsila Switzerland, and Wan Su Park, the mayor of Changwon.

In addition to its Assembly shop 1 and 2, Doosan Engine has completed its Assembly shop3, giving it the effect of economy of scale, securing an efficient production system to allow those plants to specialize in engines according to sizes, and thus equipping itself with a system to stabilize the supply of the best possible quality engines.

President Kyu Sang Cho said in his congratulatory address, “Assembly shop 3, equipped with up-to-date systems, gives Doosan Engine an annual production capacity of 310 engines and more than 9million BHP. This has once again consolidated our status as the world’s top integrated engine maker in terms of qualityand quantity. We will produce and supply superior quality engines, further strive to create customer values, and help bolster the competitiveness of Korea’s shipbuilding industry.”

In 1983, Doosan Engine began operation with an annual capacity of 300,000break horsepower. Afterward, in the shortest period of time in the world, Doosan surpassed the mark of 40 million BHP in engine production.

Doosan produced the world’s highest quantity of electronically controlled engines, thereby leading the engine industry. Doosan has grown tremendously to achieve more than one trillion won in sales for a single product.

Meanwhile, the City of Changwon recognized that the dedication of Assembly shop 3 of Doosan Engine will contribute to creating jobs and activating the regional economy, thereby declaring June 12, the dedication day for Assembly Shop 3, as Doosan Engine’s Day.
