Reliable Handling at British Airways Regional Cargo

Forklifts from Toyota Industrial Equipment are helping to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability at British Airways Regional Cargo.

British Airways Regional Cargo provides handling for British Airways to and from the UK and Ireland, as well as for other major customers. With extensive coverage throughout the UK and Ireland, the company offers a first class service to some of the world’s leading airlines.

BA Regional Cargo in Dublin works with ten airlines, handling materials as diverse as computer software and vegetables. Goods arriving at the site come from all over the world.

The forklifts used on site to unload and stack the goods ready for collection must be of the highest calibre. After testing three different manufacturers, BA chose five Toyota gas forklifts, supplied through Toyota Ireland’s regional dealer, Amlac.

Durable, reliable and flexible enough to handle freight of all weights and sizes, the Toyota forklifts have also been fitted with longer forks for easier and more efficient lifting of airline pallets.

General Manager Gerry McCormack says one of the main reasons for choosing Toyota was the reliability of the trucks: “There’s no limit to the number of lorries that arrive here daily. Pallets need to be unloaded quickly and prepared for collection in very short spaces of time. If a forklift breaks down, the process would slow down and we would risk not meeting customers’ demands.

“The Toyota trucks are exceptionally reliable and an added benefit is the level of service we receive from our regional distributor. We need to be confident that if there is ever an issue, they will respond quickly and efficiently.“

Gerry McCormack says Toyota’s impressive safety record was also an important factor in the decision to use Toyota trucks: “Toyota’s System of Active Stability (SAS) is an important benefit for us.
