Toyota Material Handling Italia (TMHIT) has recently received OHSAS 18001 certification, becoming the first sales subsidiary of Toyota Material Handling Europe (TMHE) to own one. Based in Casalecchio di Reno near Bologna, the company’s premises including offices, a warehouse and a workshop with dedicated areas where used tracks and rental fleet are inspected and reconditioned cover about 8000 m³.
The OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) is an international occupational health and safety management system specification. It enables organisations to better control health and safety requirements as per current regulations and according to the hazards and risks that may be encountered in the workplace.
TMHIT relies on more than 180 employees, including technicians and sales staff. With a busy working environment, TMHIT applied for the OHSAS 18001 certification to maximize its capacity for risk assessment and increase the employees’ health and safety at work.
Tom Schalenbourg, Director Sustainable Development at Toyota Material Handling Europe expresses his view on this TMHIT achievement. “Safety is one of the three pillars of our sustainability strategy. As a manufacturer of forklift trucks, we have a responsibility to improve safety in the material handling industry. This is why we have been actively supporting the European Agency for Health and Safety at Work (EU-OSHA) for over 3 years now in their campaigns.
In order to remain a leader in health and safety for our customers, we need to also continuously improve the safety of our own operations. We welcome the initiative of TMHIT as our first subsidiary to implement an OHSAS 18001 certified management system. This system has been proving its valuable contribution to safety in our four factories for several years now,“ he says.
