Designated the GTH-844B, it will become available in late fourth quarter of 2012.
Although Terex AWP has not released complete details about the upgraded machine, the company says the extensive improvements include adding the new Tier 4 Interim engine, moving the engine from a center-rear mount to a side mount, narrowing the unit from 102 inches wide to 96 inches, and making the operator’s station more ergonomic.
“It’s a totally new design, driven by customer input,” said Scott Krieger, Terex AWP senior product manager, telehandlers. “We believe it will set the standard for 8,000-pound capacity telehandlers, particularly in the growing rental arena.”
Moving the engine from the center rear to a low right-side mounting improves right side and rearward visibility, and gains greater access for serviceability. The move also improved the machine’s center of gravity.
Krieger said the new narrower stance of 96 inches will help the GTH-844B fit through narrower doors, maneuver into tighter work spaces, and be transported without a special over-width permit. “Those six inches really mean a lot to some customers,” he said.
In addition, Krieger says that other improvements include more-efficient hydraulics, better serviceability, and environmentally friendly Tier-3 and Tier-4I diesel engines. “We are pleased to be able to do our part to meet emissions regulations and improve the environment.”
Genie will exhibit in booth 8235 at The Rental Show.
