Held at the Newark showground, the two-day event, regarded by many as one of Britain’s best agricultural heritage events, gave Perkins a chance to display many of its heritage products alongside the company’s latest Tier 4 Interim engine. Two Perkins powered tractors were also on display on the stand - a 1948 Massey Harris 744PD powered by a Perkins P6TA owned by Alan Davies, and a 1958 Track Marshall 70 powered by a Perkins R6TA owned by Robert Crawford.
“This is the second year that Perkins has attended the show, which continues to grow and attract thousands of visitors who are interested in preserving our agricultural heritage,” said Wayne Davey, events manager for Perkins Heritage Group.
In addition to showing its own engines, Perkins ran a competition to find the ‘Best Perkins Powered Vehicle in Working Condition’ among the exhibitors at the show.
Judged by members of the Perkins Heritage Group, the winner plaque was awarded to Patrick Pawsey for his 1950 Fordson E27N tractor fitted with a Perkins P6TA engine. The tractor spent its working life in Australia and was re-imported a few years ago.
“The event gets better each year,” said Wayne, “and it’s always a pleasure to see the amount of pride which follows Perkins.”
Perkins celebrates its 80th anniversary next year, and to mark the occasion, the Newark Vintage Tractor and Heritage Show 2012 will include a Perkins power theme.
