Cargotec and DP World have signed a cooperation agreement and aim to finalise the contract shortly. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the intended contract however, a typical value of this size of a project is around EUR 100-150 million depending on the scope of the delivery.
"We are proud to be chosen as the partner in the heart of this landmark project and we are committed to London Gateway's success. With this cooperation, we are strengthening our position as a leader in the field of port automation," says Harald de Graaf, Executive Vice President, EMEA.
Cargotec's strategy is to focus on customers and to invest in attractive
customer segments. In June this year Cargotec announced the opening of its Technology and Competence Centre in Singapore which, in cooperation with the Technology and Competence Centre in Tampere, Finland, focuses on developing automation systems. Cargotec is building the world's largest port automation test area to Tampere to facilitate the testing and simulation of various solutions, including automated equipment and fleets, navigation systems and remote steering and control.
"Since 1990, we have steadily developed our track record in the field of
automation in automatic stacking crane systems and in horizontal transportation. We are determined to lead the way in automation," continues Harald de Graaf.
To support its customer focused strategy, Cargotec acquired terminal operating systems provider Navis earlier this year. Together, Cargotec and Navis will be able to offer solutions to ports. Cargotec also unveiled plans to establish a joint venture with Jiangsu Rainbow Heavy Industries Co Ltd in China to provide leading heavy crane solutions globally.
Cargotec improves the efficiency of cargo flows on land and at sea - wherever cargo is on the move. Cargotec's daughter brands, Hiab, Kalmar and MacGregor are recognised leaders in cargo and load handling solutions around the world. Cargotec's global network is positioned close to customers and offers extensive services that ensure the continuous, reliable and sustainable performance of equipment. Cargotec's sales totalled EUR 2.6 billion in 2010 and it employs approximately 11,000 people.
