GREENVILLE, N.C., Feb. 25, 2010 – Tommy Baker, division controller for NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc. (NMHG), has joined the United Way of Pitt County board and was elected Wednesday as its Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee.
NMHG was a 2009 Pacesetter organization and met its corporate goal by raising more than $225,000 for the United Way. NMHG will again be a Pacesetter organization for the 2010 campaign.
“Building up and strengthening our community is a priority for NMHG, especially in these tough times,” said Baker. “NMHG employees are a compassionate group, and we want to see our community cared for and improved. Supporting the United Way with our funds and leadership is an excellent way for NMHG to help our community.”
Baker will serve on the board for three years. He and the other board members will provide overall governance for the United Way of Pitt County by monitoring policies and programs and establish the organization's strategic purpose and direction.
NMHG has been a long-time supporter of the United Way and has been a Pacesetter for the last 34 years. Pacesetters are businesses and organizations who are committed to strengthening the community, have a strong history of support for the United Way and agree to run an early campaign to “set the pace” for the general fundraising campaign. Over the years, several other NMHG employees have also served on the United Way board and on other various United Way committees.
Hyster Company is an operating division of NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc. (www.nmhg.com), which employs approximately 4,500 people worldwide, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of NACCO Industries, Inc. (NYSE:NC).
