We at the Komatsu Group express condolences for the victims of the devastating earthquake which struck Chile on February 27.
Under the leadership of Komatsu Cummins Chile Ltda, our headquarter in Chile, we have begun to provide material assistance, which should give the highest impact towards addressing the immediate and specific needs of the affected areas and people, as follows:
• Facilitation of bulldozers and operators to remove debris in the streets of Santiago
• Provision of equipment such as a wheel loader and light tower as well as fuel and operators in the Southern affected region, in a joint assistance effort with a rental customer
• Purchasing of new water trucks to provide potable water to the victims in the worst hit areas in the South (8 units, 2 of which will be made available to the city of Concepcion)
• Provision of power generators and construction equipment together with operators and service engineers to the Southern affected regions
All combined, the material assistance offered is worth some USD200,000.
In addition, employees of Komatsu Cummins Chile raised USD50,000 as their donation, and the company matched its donation with that of employees. Total of USD100,000 has been donated.
Komatsu has localized its operation in Chile over the years through Komatsu Cummins Chile Ltda, which functions as a sales and service distributor as well. To help the affected areas of Chile with their reconstruction efforts, we remain committed to continue our material assistance for those in need.
