Hyundai Heavy to Build Wind Farm in Pakistan
转载 2010-01-28 10:59 Hyundai Source:HyundaiThe consortium led by Hyundai Heavy Industries will sign an MOU with Yunus Brothers for YUNA Project to build a wind farm with 50MW capacity at Sindh in southern Pakistan on January 25.
The YUNA project will install 30 units of 1.65MW wind turbines manufactured in Hyundai Heavy’s Gunsan facility. The wind farm will generate 15MW electricity annually when completed by the middle of 2010. It is enough to supply 60,000 households helping to solve the country’s chronic electricity shortage.
The Hyundai consortium, composed of Korean Southern Power Co., Hyundai Engineering Co., Hyundai Corp, has a 49% stake of Special Purpose Company for YUNA Project. Yunus Brothers holds the remainder.
Hyundai Heavy will sell the core equipment, wind turbines and reap profits from electricity sales distributed by its stake after the wind farm goes online.
"Hyundai Heavy Industries sees huge possibilities in Pakistan. The country has 1,046km of coast with an average wind speed of 7 meters per second. This means it can produce 5,000MW electricity by wind in its territory,” said the company’s spokesman.
Hyundai Heavy has been operating Korea’s biggest wind turbine manufacturing facility with 600MW capacity in Gunsan since October, 2009. The company took orders for six 1.65MW wind turbines from Wave Wind in USA and six wind turbines for Taebak in Korea in 2009. It signed an MOU with Korean local government, Jeollabukdo to build a wind farm of 200MW capacity.
