Motherwell-based leading manufacturer of articulated haulers, Terex Trucks, has announced Edward Massey has won its coveted Apprentice of the Year award.

Edward, 22 from Newarthill, was presented with the accolade at a ceremony in the Dalziel Park Hotel in Motherwell.

Four apprentices were in the running for the Terex Trucks’ Apprentice of the Year title alongside Edward: Calum Bryson, Stuart Meek and Craig Steele. The judging panel took into account aptitude, ability, attitude and overall performance throughout the four years of the apprenticeship training programme when making their decision.

 
HR director Paul Tierney said: “It was an extremely tough choice to make as the standards within this group were very high. We felt that Edward really went above and beyond what was expected of him over the course of his training. He has excelled at both the practical and studious elements of the programme and has continued to forge a successful career for himself within Terex Trucks. Edward, along with all of the graduates, have become valued members of the team.”

Edward also secured the East Kilbride Group Training Association’s (EKGTA) Apprentice of the Year award in September 2017, where he beat off stiff competition from well-known organisations such as Scottish Water, Liberty Steel, Texas Instruments and Coca Cola.

The Terex Trucks apprentices were recruited through the East Kilbride Group Training Association and spent one day a week at college and four days in the factory over their four year apprenticeships. The programme is planned on future skills gaps in the business and is intended to lead to full-time jobs. Edward is continuing to study for a BEng (Hons) in Computer-Aided Mechanical Engineering while working within Terex Trucks’ Technology department.
