A trio of warehouse workers at a leading sports equipment retailer are taking their careers to new heights after successfully passing forklift truck training.
Jack Neale, Gareth Davies, and Leighton Jones from Net World Sports have all completed a testing Counterbalance and Reach Forklift Truck training course overseen by RTITB, the official regulatory body for workplace transport training. The course covered such skills such as vehicle loading and unloading, stacking and de-stacking, and the operation of hydraulic controls.
Jack and Gareth are also currently working towards completing the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing & Storage Skills, with their ongoing commitment to CPD seeing the pair both earn recent promotions. Jack has progressed to the role of Warehouse Supervisor while Gareth has recently taken on the position of Shift Supervisor, his third promotion in just over a year working at the firm.
With Wrexham-based Net World Sports expanding at such a rapid rate - the business is recognised as the second-fastest growing privately-owned company in Wales by the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 list - such qualifications are essential to ensure the firm’s busy 120,000 square foot warehouse can handle the volume of products coming in and out of its Wrexham Industrial Estate home every day. Last year alone it sold more than 100,000 of its FORZA football goals, which are manufactured on-site, and delivered in excess of 300,000 items to 100 plus countries throughout the world.
This most recent career development boost is the latest in many training successes the company’s warehouse team has enjoyed. In the last few months staff have passed vocational training in areas such as Racking Awareness, Risk Assessment, First Aid, Manual Handling, and Fire Marshalling, with several warehouse and office staff also completing in-house leadership training.
John Hughes, Warehouse Manager at Net World Sports, commented: “The sustained growth of Net World Sports has seen our business increase rapidly in size year-on-year, creating a forever-changing working environment, which naturally has quite a dramatic effect on our warehouse.
“We tackle this with the productivity and determination that comes from working together as a unit. No matter what your position is within the warehouse, we all pull together. We always try to be proactive when it comes to our staff welfare because after all, they are our main driving power, so we train them to a high level, provide them with various transferable skills, and reward them with opportunities for career progression and development.”
Net World Sports is currently on a major recruitment drive as it aims to expand its team from just over 80 staff to at least 100. As well as various warehouse roles, the company is also hiring for a Social Media Manager, eBay and Amazon Platform Managers, and Web Content Editors, while there are SEO, PPC, data analyst and photo editor positions to be filled too.
