The Talent in Logistics Conference has been confirmed as the host for the ‘Lift Truck Instructor of the Year 2017’ live competition. The contest, which celebrates excellence in lift truck training and instruction, will take place alongside the ‘International Forklift Operator of the Year’, a range of free seminars and a glamorous Awards dinner in Telford, on 22nd June.

Over 50 qualified forklift instructors have entered the “Lift Truck Instructor of the Year 2017”, which will reward skilled, hard-working instructors from across the logistics industry. Following completion of an online test, entrants are now eagerly waiting to find out whether they will be among the top 10 instructors invited to compete at the live finals at the Talent in Logistics Conference. Visitors to the free event will be able to watch all the action on the day.

The winner will be announced at the annual Talent in Logistics Awards, as one of 18 awards that celebrate the unique skills and achievements of people across the transport and logistics sector. The prestigious awards will be judged by a panel of industry experts, including event media partners SHD Logistics, Transport Operator, Health and Safety at Work and Training Journal. The judging panel will also include representatives from the CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport), RHA (Road Haulage Association), FLTA (Fork Lift Truck Association) and charity Transaid.

The Talent in Logistics Awards 2017 will be hosted by special guest, stand-up comedian, and star of BBC One sitcom ‘Not Going Out’, Tim Vine. Taking place over a deluxe three course dinner at the Telford International Centre, the Awards will provide the opportunity to socialise and network with learning and development professionals from within the industry. By attending the Awards, employers can demonstrate their brand’s commitment to nurturing talent in the logistics industry. They will not only benefit from networking with potential suppliers and their peers to build strategic partnerships, but also have the chance to identify some of the top talent within the industry. Similarly, the event provides training providers with a unique chance to network and build relationships with potential customers.

Alongside the Awards, the Talent in Logistics conference and exhibition will also be taking place, focusing on the key issues that currently face learning and development professionals in logistics. The event provides a relevant professional development opportunity and will help businesses to ensure they can procure and deliver training that is right for their people and meets their business objectives.

Speakers confirmed for the day include Gary Forster, CEO of Transaid who will be discussing “The importance of material handling training in economically developing countries” and Stuart Haden, L&D Consultant for CIPD who will share advice on “Making strategic L&D work in practice”. Stuart Taylor, Managing Director of Mentor Training will address the three essential elements of training and why companies shouldn’t overlook them and Scott Gibbons, a police officer working for the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters will present on “Preventing lorry related terrorism”.

Other key topics on the conference agenda include ‘LGV Drivers: How Can We Support and Improve their Mental Health?’, ‘The Latest Developments in Learning Theory and Technology’, ‘What does logistics look like in the future and how will this impact training?’, and ‘Getting a return for your business from the apprenticeship levy’.
