The countdown is on with just over 50 days to go until the Perkins Great Eastern Run 2016.

This year's race is on track to be the biggest ever with thousands of runners already signed up to one of the UK’s fastest half-marathons.

Hundreds more will take part in the Anna’s Hope 5K fun run.

Councillor Janet Goodwin, cabinet member for city centre management, culture and tourism for Peterborough City Council, who organise the race, said: "Entries are filling up fast for the half marathon but there is still time to sign up for the race and the Anna's Hope 5K fun run.

"If you need any advice on preparing for the race then make sure you attend the free training sessions, which are a great way to meet fellow runners and get helpful tips on getting set for the big day.”

The free training sessions have run throughout the summer for anyone wanting to step up to the challenge. The remaining sessions are on Wednesday 24 August, Wednesday 7 September, Wednesday 21 September and Wednesday 5 October. They all start at 7pm and take place at the Peterborough Embankment Athletics Track on Bishops Road.
“We're on track for a record number of entrants this year, so I'd encourage anyone who is thinking about signing up for the half marathon or the fun run to do so now.”

Richard Graves, marketing promotions manager for principal sponsors Perkins
Currently in training for the half marathon, Richard added: "Half and fun runners need to create and stick to their training plan; keep running regularly, gradually increase the mileage and most importantly, stay hydrated. Whether you're an experienced or a novice runner, the free training sessions really are an excellent way to take advantage of the all the advice and support available as you prepare for the race."

The deadline to enter the race is midnight Friday 7 October and no entries will be allowed after this date or on race day. Any entries received on or after Friday 23 September will incur an additional £2 fee.

Entries can also be made by post or in person at the Visitor Information Centre, 41 Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1HJ.

Earlier this year it was announced that The Jane Tomlinson Appeal will be the race’s half marathon title charity.

The charity joins the other race partners including Anna's Hope, the official charity of the 5K fun run. For those interested in the Anna's Hope Fun Run, Junior Challenge prizes are on offer to schools and other organisations that can encourage the most entrants, and those that raise the largest amount for the charity.

You’ll be able to select the charity you wish to raise money for during the application process.
