UK based rental company A-Plant has placed an order for Manitou telehandlers worth over £3 million.

The new Manitou telehandlers have already been delivered to and are now arriving at A-Plant’s depots in the UK. The order comprises a range of fixed frame models with lift heights from six to 18 metres and all include Stage IIIB/Tier 4 compliant engines.

Andrew Winlow, director of purchasing and fleet management, said: “The great advantage of the new Manitou telehandlers is their compact design, allowing them to be used on construction sites with restricted room for manoeuvre, such as inner city developments. The larger models we have purchased have compact stabilisers which always remain within the working width of the machine whatever the position. This investment has allowed us to update and enhance our Telehandler fleet and offer our customers the latest models available with compliance to Stage IIIB/Tier 4 regulations.”

Manitou UK’s marketing manager Paul Bidwell added: “The new additions to A-Plant’s fleet offer significantly greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions, while safety is an integral part of the design with features such as automatic parking brakes, a tilt lock out facility, an easy connect system enabling de-pressurisation of the hydraulic attachment service without turning off the engine and a digicode for security and immobilisation.”

Ashtead-owned A-Plant runs the second largest telehandler fleet in the UK and has typically purchased JCB telehandlers, so this is quite a departure. However it does not necessarily signal a switch from one to the other. In May A-Plant purchased 800 JCB machines in a £27 million deal a large percentage of which was made up of new JCB telehandlers.
