Kalmar has launched new ‘revised’ versions of the electric forklift truck at the CeMAT exhibition in Hannover, Germany.
Electric forklift trucks are traditionally used for lightweight operations, but Kalmar’s new version has been developed it for heavy-duty work and challenging environments.
The ECG50-90 truck has a lifting capacity of five to nine tonnes and features energy-saving driving modes, which together with changes made to the electrical and hydraulic systems, can save up to 15% energy compared to Kalmar’s previous model.
Quiet and free of emissions, Kalmar says the forklift is ideal for indoor use and for handling sensitive goods, while reduced maintenance means service personnel can finish their job quicker.
It also features an improved EGO cabin, with upgrades to ergonomics and visibility, while a high-intensive blue light has been added which projects on the floor to alerts people that the machine is approaching.
Big Wheel
In addition to the new electric forklift, Kalmar has also introduced a new diesel-powered DCG140-6 Big Wheel forklift model, designed for environments where reliability, traction, ground clearance and stability are called for.
The machine comes with larger tyres for increased traction on muddy and uneven terrain, as well as higher clearance of 500m. The counterweight has been lowered to ensure good stability and the lifting mast is heavy duty. For wood handling, there are several options available to enhance safety and ease of handling and maintenance.
Spanish order
The company is to supply nine forklift trucks to long-standing customer, Bergé Group in Spain. The units will provide additional capacity at Bergé’s two key locations, Sociedad Auxiliar Del Puerto De Pasajes SA and Port Nou in Barcelona, as the ports prepare for increased shipping volumes.
Eight of the units, including two Kalmar G-generation machines and two Kalmar DCF330-12LB forklifts fitted with magnets, will be delivered to Pasajes, which specialises in handling steel products. A Kalmar DCF420-12, equipped with a spreader designed for working inside ro-ro vessels, is scheduled for Port Nou, a multi-purpose container and general cargo terminal.
Delivery is scheduled for January 2015.
