At IMHX 2013 Transmon showed visitors how pedestrians and forklifts can work safely alongside each other, with live demonstrations of the iTEch Pedestrian Alert System (PAS) and the iTEch Active Reversing System.

“Pedestrian presence was a considerable focus at IMHX 2013. People working in the same environment with forklift trucks proves to be the most challenging issue our customers have to work with,” said Paul Sercombe of Transmon.

“Transmon offers a number of systems, which were demonstrated at IMHX, to help businesses to manage this situation, with the operator always remaining central to the success of the solution.”

According to Paul Sercombe, the most sought after products from the new iTEch range are those designed to enhance safety for pedestrians working alongside materials handling equipment, combined with a truck speed reduction system, which offers creep speeds or truck stop.

Visitors to Transmon’s stand at IMHX saw a selection of products from Transmon’s new iTEch range and were able to speak to specialists about ways Transmon systems can help materials handling operations to reduce costs, enhance efficiency and improve safety.

Installed and set up correctly, iTEch systems from Transmon can help to increase levels of personal safety as well as the safety standards set across the site.

For example, the iTEch Active Reverse System automatically alerts the driver to the presence of a pedestrian or obstacle when reversing and the iTEch PAS (Pedestrian Alert System) uses RFID technology to detect the presence of a pedestrian, helping to reduce the number of accidents involving pedestrians and forklift trucks. Both systems also have an additional connection to speed control for extra speed reduction, to creep or stop when activated.

Transmon’s iTEch TDS601 LCD WiFi (fleet management system), features an integrated daily checks feature, which is more detailed than other check systems implemented in forklift fleet management systems, as well as RFID Card or Fob access, driver license expiration and impact detection. 

Transmon’s iTEch Zone Control System, voted as a runner up in the Technology division of the Design 4 Safety awards, was also shown at IMHX 2013.  The system enhances safety by restricting travel speeds in designated zones (such as pedestrianised areas), whilst maintaining productivity with higher travel speeds in lower risk areas.

“The iTEch Zone Control System helps to increase site safety and removes some of the responsibility from the forklift operator” explains Paul.  “It can be fitted to any vehicle and three versions are available to suit different application requirements.”

Based in Leicester, Transmon Engineering designs, manufactures and installs electronic systems that help enhance materials handling operations by improving onsite safety, enhancing efficiency or reducing the operation’s carbon footprint.
