Following a 20 year successful partnership with the aggregate division of CEMEX UK, Potter Logistics is now expanding its work into another business area of CEMEX - its concrete products business. This will increase the annual volume of aggregates via the Ely Rail Freight Terminal to almost 250,000 tonnes.

Potter Logistics will be handling and storing up to 2,000 packs of concrete blocks per month at its Ely rail freight terminal on behalf of CEMEX. The blocks made at CEMEX Buxton block plant (in CEMEX Dove Holes quarry) will arrive on existing trains that bring aggregate products to Ely up to five times a week. Each train is capable of carrying up to 150 packs of blocks in addition to the normal aggregate load.

The aggregate division of CEMEX operates its asphalt plant at Potter Logistics, Ely. The facility uses Potter's stone discharge system to sort the different grades of aggregate that arrive by rail whilst the concrete blocks will be stored in Potter's main yard, separate to the aggregate operation.

Garry Gregory, business manager of CEMEX Concrete Products & Floors comments, "For the last 20 years or so, Potter Logistics has professionally hosted the Ely asphalt plant for our aggregate division. As a consequence, we have now asked them to expand their operation to include our concrete products. They will be providing rail logistics and storage services for this important area of our business and we're looking forward to continuing to develop our relationship in the future. This new venture will enable us to service our existing customers with a high quality product whilst potentially giving us the opportunity to enter into some new markets. "
