In spring of 2013 Jungheinrich is introducing an entirely new reach truck, the ETV 318, unveiling it to a global audience at the IMHX 2013 show in Birmingham, UK.

Jungheinrich is exhibiting an entirely new reach truck at the IMHX intralogistics show in Birmingham, United Kingdom, which runs from March 19 to 22, 2013. The new ETV 318 model is capable of lifting and transporting loads of up to 1,800 kilograms. One of the stacker’s chief characteristics consists of its maximum lift height of 11,500 millimetres (height of racking bay floor: 11,300 millimetres), with a residual weight capacity of 1,000 kilograms. “With a wide range of packages and an even broader range of options, we can offer our clients a vehicle that is ideally tailored to their operational needs,” reports Joachim Schier, Head of Reach Truck Product Management at Jungheinrich.

A special highlight consists of the reach truck’s new, operator-protecting panorama roof made of tinted safety glass, offering greatly improved visibility during storing and picking operations, particularly at high lift heights. According to Schier: “Instead of inconvenient cross members, the operator now has a perfect view of the payload through a special pane of glass.”

The ETV 318 reach truck from Jungheinrich is also fitted with new electric steering. “The steering wheel knob is always in the most ergonomic position — i.e. the so-called 9 o’clock position — whenever the truck travels in a straight line,” explains Schier. This is the case even if the steering wheel has been moved while the truck was turned off or was rotated several times in 180° steering mode. “The Jungheinrich steering control always brings the knob right back to the starting position.”

Position Control: Fast and Easy Stacking at Predefined Heights

The Jungheinrich reach truck moreover has a number of features which make the operator’s work easier and enhance the vehicle’s efficiency. The Position Control assistance system facilitates fast and easy stacking at predefined storage heights, while the new integrated “snap” function goes a step further: As Joachim Schier puts it: “When the operator moves the control lever, the truck automatically recognises the right rack level. It is no longer necessary to manually select the height.” The new stacker assistance system also offers an additional element of protection against damage to goods and racks.

The Warehouse Control  assistance system is responsible for data transmission between the reach truck terminal and the warehouse management system. The data are processed in the vehicle and serve as set points for lift height pre-selection. “The Warehouse Control system makes it possible to fully integrate the reach truck with the client’s own warehouse management system,” remarks Schier. “Apart from substantially increasing efficiency, this also virtually excludes any storing and picking errors.”
