Global provider of automated warehouse solutions, Swisslog, is leading the way for a more sustainable future with their new apprentice scheme, offering young people the chance to develop key business skills and build-long term careers within the materials handling industry.

The scheme, introduced to encourage fresh young talent, is a dedicated three-year programme that fits in with the organisation's long-term growth strategy and commitment to the development of both its existing and future employees. As part of the programme, apprentices benefit from learning the theory behind engineering as well as working alongside our existing experienced engineers.

Head of Swisslog's Central European organisation, Andrew Manship believes the newly introduced scheme will lead to a more motivated and satisfied next generation of employees.

Andrew said: "It is vital that this sector has a strong well trained workforce. At Swisslog, we strive to play a key part in the development of future skilled employees. We believe it is essential to attract new people to our industry, particularly during this tough economic climate, and we believe this apprenticeship scheme will do just that."

The company has recently taken on its first young apprentice, Luke Matthews, as an Apprentice Engineer.

Luke will attend college for the first few months of employment and then start 'on the job training' where he will be mentored and supervised by Swisslog personnel whilst working towards his level three qualification and technical certificate.

Swisslog hopes to extend the scope of its apprentice scheme and offer tailored programmes in other areas of its business.
