Cargotec has won a contract to supply 12 Kalmar DCG150-12 forklift trucks to ArcelorMittal Hamburg GmbH, its largest ever order for the new DCG models.
ArcelorMittal will take delivery of the new models in February 2013. They will be employed at the company's Hamburg facility which manufactures steel coils. The forklifts which replace existing Kalmar DCE90-180 models will be responsible for a range of tasks including the unloading and transportation of steel coils across the extensive site. Each will be fitted with double coil ram attachments enabling them to handle two steel coils at one time.
The company traditionally updates its forklift fleet every three years and Cargotec has successfully retained the contract for the last five cycles by demonstrating excellent service and support, the continual improvement of the product and through high uptime figures for existing equipment.
The environmental performance of the Kalmar forklifts was a crucial factor in the decision to choose these latest additions to the fleet - as ArcelorMittal ensures green credentials are a major focus of its business. As such, the company insisted on forklift technology that provided the most environmental protection available.
At the core of the new models are Cummins EU Stage IIIB / EPA Tier 4i emissions compliant diesel engines, which feature a diesel particulate filter, cutting particulate emissions by 90% as well as reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by half. The incorporation of these class leading engines was decisive for ArcelorMittal as it strives to maintain its position at forefront of environmental sustainability.
The DCG150-12 models incorporate the new EGO cabin, which was also highlighted at a key factor in the selection process. This is Kalmar's most productive driving environment, stimulating productivity, efficiency and safety. They also feature new electric and hydraulic systems as well as cutting edge lifting equipment to help boost productivity and operational savings.
The new models are from Kalmar's DCG90-180 range of lift trucks. With capacities ranging from 9 to 18 tonnes they bring benefits to drivers, service engineers and senior management with enhanced cost-efficiency, quality and productivity resulting in better performance and greater total lifetime savings. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2012 third quarter order intake.
