Genie has unveiled a new prototype telehandler at The Rental Show in New Orleans today.

The company sasy that the new machine, the GTH-8448, is "New from ‘stem to stern’ ", it replaces the GTH-844 and will be available in both the North and South Amercan markets. The telehandler has a maximum lift capacity of 8,000lbs (3,628kg) and is scheduled for production towards the end of this year.

Weighing 25,000lbs (11.4 tonnes) the machine has a maximum lift height of 44ft (13.4 metres) and maximum reach of 28ft (8.5 metres). Lift capacity at maximum height is 6,000lbs (2,700kg) and capacity at maximum reach is 2,000 lbs (907kg).

The new telehandler features a more environmentally-friendly Tier 4i diesel engine (with an option of either Deutz or Perkins), now mounted on the right-side of the unit rather than the centre-rear, a new operator area, narrower width of 96 inches (2.44 metres) and improved serviceability.

“Using customer input, we have completely redesigned our 8K telehandler,” said Scott Krieger senior product manager for Genie booms and telehandlers. “By moving the engine and lowering the dash, the GTH-844B provides excellent visibility while also providing greater access for serviceability.”

The improved control station creates a better working environment for the operator. Features include a tiltable steering wheel, updated single-lever joystick control, new gauge and switch packages.

“The narrow machine improves manoeuvrability and new axles help improve the geometry of the machine’s steering, creating a better balanced product.

This new telehandler will set the standard for 8Ks in the rental arena and marks our strong commitment to this product category,” added Krieger.
