New Holland has added two new models to its LM5000 agricultural range of telehandlers, the 2.5 tonne/5.8 metre LM5020 and the 2.8 tonne/6.4 metre LM5030.

The LM5020 is just 1.8 metres wide, by 1.95 metres high and just over four metres long, while the 5030 is slightly larger with a width and height of two metres and an overall length of 4.67 metres. The LM5020 has a turning circle of 3.4 metres while the LM5030 takes four metres.

The new models include Tier 3 engines with 85 and 110 litres/minute hydraulic flow, cabs have a high glazed area, which according to the company offers full 360 degree visibility, with New Holland’s two levels of cab comfort levels, the higher of which includes air-conditioning and double-glazing. The single joystick controller can operate up to five services, ideal for applications such as silage clamps.

New Holland says the new models are typically 10 to 12 percent heavier than competitive machines of a similar size, due to oversized structural components which also provides a more stable machine, particularly when lifting at full reach.

The new models have been designed with small livestock and horticultural operations in mind. As far as we know there are no plans to add these new units to the company’s range of construction telehandlers.

While New Holland is not a significant player in the telehandler market and does not appear to have plans to try and change this, its agricultural distribution network does give it a respectable position in this market which continues to grow as farms get larger and farmers move towards specialist equipment for loading- rather than relying on a tractor mounted front end loader.

One wonders if it would not do better following Same Deutz-Fahr or even Caterpillar’s example of working closely with a telehandler specialist- in their case JLG. Or perhaps this is what it has actually done?

Until 2008 New Holland did have an agreement with Manitou but it was more of a supply deal than a partnership. While nothing has been said these compact machiens look very very much like the Dieci Appollo series.

If they are Dieci, the Appolooa is a very good compact machine and give the company a quick and inexpensive entry into the market, but perhaps too late for som of its customer’s who are already likely to have already purchased from other manufacturers.
