Komatsu Ltd. (President & CEO: Kunio Noji) signed an academia-industry collaboration agreement with Tongji University (President: Dr. Gang Pei) on April 7. The collaboration agreement calls for joint projects designed to promote academic research aiming at practical applications in society, advance social applications of research results, and foster the growth of promising engineers.
Tongji University, located in Shanghai, is a national key university as designated by the Chinese government. The university is ranked in the top class in engineering among all universities in China. Under the collaboration agreement, both parties will conduct joint research in such areas as mechanical engineering and ICT in relation to construction equipment, Komatsu (China) will offer an internship program for students, and Tongji University will provide technological consulting to Komatsu in promising areas for Komatsu Group's future business in China.
Komatsu and Tongji University have already conducted project-based joint research. With the collaboration agreement between the two, we are better positioned to organizationally strengthen mutual cooperation and exchanges.
Tongji University is the sixth university of Komatsu's academia-industry collaboration, following Shandong University in China, Yokohama National University, Osaka University, Kanazawa University and The University of Tokyo.
