Media giant News Limited has taken delivery of two custom built paper roll handlers produced by Jungheinrich Germany and supplied by NTP Forklifts Australia.

The compact tub design trucks model ERK215, have a capacity of 1500kg and can pick up and carry newsprint rolls with a diameter up to 1275mm directly from the floor. With a small truck footprint and excellent manoeuvrability, the ERK units are ideal for handling paper rolls in tight spaces amongst the print machines.

The Jungheinrich ERK trucks can be used in either ride-on or pedestrian modes via a folding platform and lateral safety hip restraints for the operator, whilst the ERK drive unit offers powerful acceleration from the maintenance free AC drive motor.

The ERK units have all of the standard Jungheinrich features such as; infinite speed control with adjustable drive parameters including speed limiting, electric power steering, automatic speed reduction on cornering Jungheinrich Curve Control re-generative braking, and automatic parking brake on stand-still. With extremely low energy consumption, the ERK trucks are capable of extended or even double shifts on one battery charge.

The ERK215 units compliment the Jungheinrich ESE model print reel handlers already in use by News Limited at the same site. These ESE units also feature a custom built load section to move printed newspapers on a rotary multidisc handler during the production process. The custom design load section of the Jungheinrich trucks docks with the rotary multidisc and then in-turn interlocks with the printing machines, ensuring safe and uninterrupted transfer of the newspapers to the rotary multidisc during the automated process.
